At the WLBOTT Senior Executive Dining Hall, we occasionally serve homemade Varenikis. They are dumplings stuffed with a mashed potato mixture, then either boiled or fried.
Incredibly versatile – the stuffing can include cheese, sausage, cabbage, mushrooms, onions, carrots…. And the toppings – sour cream, gravies of all types, marinara sauce. Sally the Intern likes ranch dressing. Texas-style toppings includes chili/cheese, jalapeno nacho cheese, enchilada sauce, chicken-fried steak gravy, frito pie, pico de gallo….
Difficulty level: Look, if we can do it, how hard can it be?
Upsides: 1) Fried pierogi w/sour cream will keep your innards well lubricated. 2) This is a fun family activity! Get the kids involved!
