Metropolitan Flute Festival Orchestra
My Spousal Unit played in the Metropolitan Flute Festival Orchestra concert this weekend in Groton MA. [Spousal Unit] played alto flute in the 65 piece flute orchestra. In addition to the wonderful music, it was amazing to hear the entire flute family being played – from piccolo to subcontrabass flute (pictured below – one of only 4 in the world). The orchestra was able to play every key on a full piano keyboard with the range of their flutes so they could translate orchestral music meant for strings, winds, etc. to a flute orchestra. And I’m not sure how one gets the subcontrabass packed and thru airport security.

The Subcontrabass Flute
One of the most amazing things about the subcontrabass flute is that “subcontrabass” is a word known to the Chrome spell checker.
