Norway (Maine)

Thanks to Unindicted Co-conspirator #1 for today’s post.

Norway, in Maine, not the one adjacent to Sweden.

Interesting town, if only because of their new 1 MW solar project built on top of a contaminated old landfill site. This news comes to me via email from UGE International, a company traded on the TSE. Through shrewd investment analysis and inspired trading I was able to limit my losses on this investment to only $CDN 836.94 (about $USD 35.00 based on latest exchange rates).

The town has a lower population than [redacted], Alberta, Canada (5077 vs 6545), yet it sports 27 (and counting) restaurants and food outlets, including 4 Subways (classification “Restaurant” used only in the broadest sense). And yes, there is a buffet! Check out Lotus Restaurant described as a “Bustling buffet restaurant with a warm atmosphere offering Chinese & Japanese fare”. And there are others. By comparison, [redacted], Alberta has about 22 restaurants and food outlets.

Other distinguishing features:

Almost destroyed in the Great Norway Fire of 1894.

Held the title of “Snowshoe Capital of the World” during the late 1800’s

Places to see:
* Witt Swamp Preserve – located on Pleasant St. Where else would you put a swamp?
* Lake Pennesseewassee Park. Probably not half as interesting as the name.
* Mount Apatite. I presume you would work up one by climbing it.

One can assume that the town respects “Quality of Life” in that they located the Harley Davidson dealership well out of ear-shot, almost out of town on Hwy 202.

According to UC#4, you can tell a lot about a place by its Library. This one gives you access to Comics Plus, so it can’t be all bad.

Next time I am in Maine on my motorcycle, I’ll be sure to stop by.

Very cool public library, with a rich history, diverse activities and active community support. Most of these images were taken from the library’s Facebook page and official web site.
