Our very own Sally the Intern has found a YouTube channel dedicated to smushing stuff in an industrial hydraulic press.
These videos get MILLIONS of views.
You can see videos of bowling balls getting crushed, human molars stress tested, or even a solid hour smushing….
WLBOTT Wonders?
WLBOTT Wonders? Can you justify the cost of a hydraulic press solely on having a popular YouTube channel?
First of all, how much to YouTube content makers make?
Some Stats….
So how much is that hydraulic press?
So…. a little back-of-the-envelope:
(3,783,826,589 / 1000) * $5 = $ 18,919,132.95
Over 5 years…. $ 3,783,826.59 per year.
Since we want the fully tricked-out hydraulic press at $5,000,000, that still leaves us with almost $14M in profit.
What else can we use the hydraulic press for? Oddly, smushing bowling balls didn’t make this list…..
Let’s Not Forget the Merch!
Lauri and Hanna Vuohensilta were crushing it!
And a Wikipedia page:
Tampere, Finland
Where did this magic happen? This brings us to their home town of Tampere, Finland.
Their YouTube show made the Tampere Wikipedia page:
But not (as yet) on the list of notable people:
Tampere is famous for its Mustamakkara and lingonberry jam.

So if this must be an acquired taste in Finland, we can only imagine how the rest of the world would react.
And what exactly are these crazy Tampere kids up to?
Ambitious…. We’ll just leave it at this:

Who gets to clean the hydraulic press after each experiment?
Great comment! When first watching the videos, my thought was “does this guy’s boss know about this?”, but then as I worked the numbers, and if they are anywhere close to real, these guys could hire a cleaning crew.
Probably my favorite was when they smushed a whole pineapple.
