Food Late Stage Capitalism

Food (in quotes)

[Thanks to UC#3 for today’s topic]

UC#3: I’m light on tour stop posts, so I’ll have to get to work on that. This is State Fair time in the US, so need to scout interesting exhibits to add to our list.  State Fair food is a target rich environment, but a bit like shooting fish in a barrel.

Before we get to today’s BLOTT, let’s get the grousing over with (9/9/2023, or, in European format, 9/9/2023):

Target Rich indeed! This is the first in a 27-part exposé of the International State Fair Food Cartel.

We begin with everyone’s top concern: The Nutritional Value of State Fair Foods.

Interesting PDF of the nutritional quality of State Fair foods. Any list that begins with “Alligator on a Stick” is, by definition, WLBOTT-worthy.

And buzz kill WebMD had to weigh in:

Deep Fried Butter Balls

You know you’ve made it when you have your own warning-free Wikipedia page. Texas is the line leader, with Canada a close second.

According to Calorie King:

How would late stage capitalism spin this?

  • An important source of protein!
  • No added sugars!
  • Keto friendly!

By the way, this is a tiny serving. No one’s gonna eat one butter ball. And again by the way, you can make these at home! Only 6 ingredients!

A Healthier Choice

Perhaps a healthier choice would be Teriyaki Ostrich On-a-Stick:

The Blooming Onion: A Line Leader

Generically…..

But at the Outback….

I think the key here is surface area. More study is required, but our current assumption is a total surface area of 135 sq inches (see references).

But to get the fully tricked-out Outback blooming onion with bacon-loaded cheddar fries (and who wouldn’t want this?), you’d better prep for 2,360 calories.

A Word about WLBOTT Collaboration

WLBOTT is a collaborative effort. UC#3 sent me this cartoon shortly after the Hoover Dam was completed:
