[ed. note: “Vortex of Immorality” is a quote from Mark Dixon, referring to Unilever’s corporate behavior.]
Today WLBOTT presents the first DPOMLATMIR[1] award.
[1] DPOMLATMIR – Don’t Pee On My Leg And Tell Me Its Raining
This is in response to an opinion piece by Catherine Bennett in yesterday’s Guardian.
Ms. Bennett….
- Takes No Prisoners
- Cuts No Slack
- Pulls No Punches
- Slashes and Burns
- is Case Hardened
- No Nonsense
So…. Unilever, maker of Dove and Ben&Jerry’s and all kinds of nonsense products…. through it’s tax revenue, is providing the Russian army with 39 bullets each second.
The lying, hypocrisy, and outright corporate psychopathy, is astounding.
The Guardian has brought this to our attention before:
As have many others….
Woke Washing
WLBOTT learned a new term today, thus increasing our vocabulary by about 0.07%:
Oh, the BS runs deep with this one, Grasshopper. These quotes are all pulled verbatim from the Unilever web site….
contribute to tackling the twin challenges of climate change and social inequality.
We have a long tradition of being a responsible and pioneering business.
We strive to do more good for our planet and our society – not just less harm.
Our values define how we do business – with integrity.
We expect everyone at Unilever to be an ambassador for our high ethical standards.
We want to create an environment where employees not only live our values in their own work – integrity, respect, responsibility and pioneering – but are vigilant in identifying potential concerns, and confident about speaking up in such situations.
to raise the bar on issues such as human rights, anti-bribery and corruption.
we seek to embed a culture of integrity at all levels, in all geographies
We run regular globally designed and locally implemented communications campaigns to reinforce awareness and, where relevant, share lessons learnt in training.
Apparently, the other 9% work in Russia.
The initial corporate response to the Russian invasion was total PR, and a lie.
But they are not alone…. As of 8/10/23,
Boycott
Many years ago, I had the great honor of hearing Cesar Chavez speak at the University of Texas. Tish Hinojosa sang before he spoke. The one thing I remember is him saying that you don’t have to stop buying all the grapes – just stop buying enough so that it makes it unprofitable for the company to continue it’s bad behavior.
After all, Unilever has made it clear that its only motivation is profit.
Interesting etymology for the word “boycott”
Note to late-stage capitalists: if your payroll includes a guy with a gun motivating the harvesters, you are doing something wrong.
Let’s leave it there with some peaceful music by Tish Hinojosa.
