Haiku and Not Haiku

Big WLBOTT thanks to UC#3 for today’s BLOTT

Citizens of WLBOTT – Since we have a worldly cohort (a fancy new term I’ve learned by hanging around academics lately..), I would like to follow up with the Kauai chickens. Kauai is super laid back, not overly touristy , and the residents just coexist with feral chickens that aren’t good for eating or eggs, so they roam free across the island. 6 chickens for every resident.

Question of the day: What other countries or societies in the world have a similar feral, non-human population that is integrated within their lives and the human and feral non-human populations peacefully coexist.

Kauai chicken haiku

Landed in Kauai
Wild chickens were everywhere
Cock-a-doodle-do
Kauai chicken limerick

There once was a Kauaian named Lou
He serenaded his rooster, Ned, with his kazoo
Ned roamed the island’s roads and beaches
Scaring surfers out of their breeches
But Ned greeted each sunrise with cock-a doodle-do

Semi-Sequitur: An illogical extension: Urban Monkeys

NPR‘s got us covered…..
