WLBOTT Brings Down the Internet

Ladies and Gents – I believe WLBOTT needs to take responsibility for cratering the internet vs CrowdStrike. I think our post about anchovies directed so much traffic to our site, that the internet Floundered from all the Carping. Some on the internet want to put our heads on a Pike, but we can redeem ourselves by examining our Soles and not getting in a Roe about it.

Outage Confirmed

We take partial responsibility. No raindrop ever feels responsible for the flood, but we acknowledge our part in the unusually heavy traffic.

The Guardian

Troy Hunt, a leading cybersecurity consultant, said the scale of the IT failure was unprecedented.

“I don’t think it’s too early to call it: this will be the largest IT outage in history,” he tweeted.

“This is basically what we were all worried about with Y2K, except it’s actually happened this time,” he added, referring to the millennium bug that worried IT experts in the run-up to 2000 – but ultimately did not cause serious damage.

BBC

  • A massive tech failure has caused travel chaos around the world, with banking and healthcare services also badly hit
  • Thousands of flights have been grounded because of the IT outage – a flaw which left many computers displaying blue error screens
  • There were long queues, delays and flight cancellations at airports around the world, as passengers had to be manually checked in
  • Cyber-security firm Crowdstrike has admitted that the problem was caused by an update to its antivirus software, which is designed to protect Microsoft Windows devices from malicious attacks

Interestingly, Austin is home to both WLBOTT and Crowdstrike.

Drop by and wish them luck!
CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc, 206 E 9th St, Ste 1400, Austin, TX.

Crowdstrike has the tactical advantage of being right around the corner from St. Mary’s Cathedral.

As of yesterday, 5:00pm, Crowdstrike seemed like a good place to work.

It oozes corporate culture.

WLBOTT Corporate Non-Apology Apology

Dear Internet,

I hope you’re feeling fin-tastic today! I’m writing this message to apologize for the recent debacle where we somehow managed to break the Internet. I know it was a whale of a mess, and we feel like a real gill-ty party. Please don’t be crabby with me!

We promise we’ll trout our best to ensure this doesn’t happen again. We didn’t mean to cause a tidal wave of trouble. It was an eel-conceived idea, and we’re reeling from the consequences. I’ll work on my netiquette and make sure I don’t flounder around like this in the future.

We’re not fishing for compliments or trying to skate by without acknowledging my mistake. I understand if you need some time to clam down. I’m just hoping we can wave goodbye to this incident and move forward.

Thank you for your understanding, and I hope we can keep our friendship swimmingly strong. If there’s anything I can do to make things right, please let minnow!

Best fishes,

The Elders of WLBOTT
