WLBOTT Establishes Diplomatic Relations with Iceland

Today WLBOTT congratulates the new Icelandic president, Halla Tómasdóttir.

First things first…. How do you pronounce Halla Tómasdóttir?

Halla Tómasdóttir

From The Guardian:

A feminist entrepreneur who started an investment fund with the musician Björk at the height of Iceland’s 2008 financial crisis and gave a TED talk on applying “feminine values” to finance is to become her country’s president on Thursday.

Halla Tómasdóttir won just more than 34% of the vote in elections in June, beating a crowded field that included Katrín Jakobsdóttir, who resigned as prime minister to run.

She will replace Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, who despite considerable popularity is stepping down after eight years in office.

The Guardian

From Iceland Review:

Halla Tómasdóttir won Iceland’s presidential election on June 1 with 34.1% of the vote, beating out a record number of candidates. Halla was polling at around 5% at the start of the election campaign but her support rose steadily leading up to the election….

Presidential elections are held every four years in Iceland. While there is no term limit for the office, Halla has stated that she considers it acceptable for a president to sit two to three terms, like her predecessor Guðni. Halla is currently 55 years old. She is the second woman to be elected President of Iceland, after Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, who in 1980 became the first female democratically elected head of state in the world.

Halla takes office on August 1, 2024 [today!].

[2] Is is

[3] Peeps

This would give Iceland 54.57% of a U.S congressperson. We’re note sure if Iceland would benefit from the half with the head or without the head.

Not sure how many republican Supreme Court Justices they could afford.

Establishing Diplomatic Relations

WLBOTT officially recognizes Iceland, and is eager to establish diplomatic relations. We realize that this will be a challenging task, given that we are not actually a country, don’t have a flag (as yet), and our official currency is minted on a single 90’s vintage ink jet printer. (Our WL-Bucks are actually extremely stable, and is tied to the recycle price of used computer paper).
