Kazakhstan Demands an Apology

We are reporting on an internationally incident that, thankfully, WLBOTT was not involved in. We fired up the WLBOTT time machine to share with you:

An incident happened in 2012 during an international shooting championship in Kuwait. The organizers mistakenly played a parody version of Kazakhstan’s national anthem from the movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan instead of the actual anthem during the medal ceremony for the Kazakh shooter Maria Dmitrienko.

The parody anthem from the satirical movie included absurd and humorous lyrics that were offensive to Kazakhstan, which understandably caused quite an uproar. The Kazakh team demanded an apology, and the organizers issued a formal apology for the mistake. They claimed that the wrong anthem was downloaded from the internet by mistake. The incident became widely reported and was seen as a major embarrassment for the event’s organizers.

Kazakhstan’s shooting team was taken by surprise when a spoof national anthem from the film Borat was used at a medal ceremony in Kuwait.

The team demanded an apology after Maria Dmitrienko was played the obscene song, which features lyrics about prostitutes and potassium exports, as she received her gold medal.

A video posted on YouTube shows Dmitrienko on the podium, her hand on her heart, looking perplexed as the song begins to play. She appears to see the funny side and is smiling by the end.

The blunder apparently occurred after the event’s organisers downloaded the parody from the internet by mistake. They also got the Serbian anthem wrong.
