Following yesterday’s detasseling BLOTT, we would be remiss if we failed to relay the tassel confusion that occurred at Texas A&M University several years ago.
As the official Event Coordinator for Texas A&M‘s commencement, Callahan ‘Cactus Jack’ Kleberg had one job: order tassels.
Being an agricultural school, Cactus Jack thought they were corn tassels. You could see how anyone could make this mistake.
Cactus Jack realized his mistake then the 18 wheeler pulled up.
But Aggies are good natured and enterprising. They decided to embrace the tassel, and designed their graduation ensemble accordingly.
Even the professors played along.
The trend caught on. Their arch-rival, the University of Texas at Austin, got caught up in the trend.
